When all this “sheltering in place” began here in Northern California a month ago, going online for my writer’s group meeting was a novelty. We are fortunate to have a Zoom guru at our club who set it up, and she helped our speaker show their slides for the presentation.

As the weeks slogged on, Zoom mushroomed in popularity. I learned how to set up an online event for my Shut Up & Write Meet Up group. Groups were meeting for virtual cocktail parties. Trainers were offering one-on-one workout sessions and because it is April, there were even seders for families isolated from each other.

I was managing OK for a while, but then had a problem putting up the correct date for my Meet Up and some couldn’t log in.

Even for myself, I was getting overwhelmed with Zoom by invitations for several different dates and I began to worry I would miss one, mistake one for another and just generally screw it all up. These Zoom meetings were filling my Google Calendar with a multitude of addresses I was expected to attend?

Enough! I was losing sleep and overeating cheese and crackers to quell my anxiety.

Instead of enjoying the creativity of families singing and dancing together and friends reading their poetry, I wanted to hide.

No more. I can’t take one more Zoom meeting!

After much musing, I decided I had to take control as this was not going to change anytime soon. What to do?

I decided to make a dedicated Zoom calendar and give my overloaded Google calendar a break. Such a relief.

Now I can go back to just eating my normal amount of cheese and crackers.
